Media Release – Connemara Seafood Business set to achieve €500 000 additional sales throughout the West of Ireland in 2012

JANUARY

MEDIA RELEASE January 9th 2012

Connemara Seafood Business set to achieve €500 000 additional sales throughout the West of Ireland in 2012.

A Connemara seafood business which has been exporting shellfish from Rossaveal Co Galway for over 30 years, is set to achieve additional sales of over €500 000 in the Irish market in 2012.

Breizon Ltd, run by two French brothers Guenael and Loic Trahan expect to develop a market with a new range of seafood products, sales of which have exceeded all expectations during the Christmas season. “I grew up in France and have always had a passion for good food” said Guenael Trahan one of the co-founders of the company. “We export a lot of Irish shellfish to France and I am always looking at what French retailers are selling and seeing if we could do something similar here in Ireland”. French seafood retailers sell huge volumes of prawns and other shellfish. Here in Ireland the amount and selection of shellfish on offer has up to now been limited, yet consumption of seafood in Ireland continues to increase.

To exploit this opportunity Breizon have developed a range of ready to eat seafood products, under the brand name Window to the Sea. The ready to eat range includes Irish Crab Claws, Peeled Prawn Tails, Whole Cooked Prawns, Scallops with Breton Sauce and a Seafood Selection, all prepared by the family run business in Connemara. Already on sale in a selection of Super Valu , Joyces and Independent supermarkets throughout Connacht, demand was so strong in December that the business, is set to easily achieve its target of additional sales of half a million euro in 2012.

Notes to the Editor

Breizon Ltd was founded by two French brothers Loic & Guenael Trahan in 1977. Their father Bernard Trahan owned and ran a fish shop in Brittany for 25 years, he then decided to follow his passion for fishing and hunting and relocated to Connemara. His two sons soon followed and began exporting live, fresh and frozen shellfish to Europe, primarily to France. The business based in Rossaveal now has a turnover of over €10 million and employs 20 people. This new venture is the company’s first foray into value added branded seafood products. The name Breizon comes from the Breton words for Brittany – breizh and for Ireland – izon .
